| When to be Concerned. |
| Your first year with your baby will speed by. As you get to know each other, youll find yourself making all sorts of observations. In the area of hearing and speaking, here are two important things to watch for: |
| | If your child does not smile or make sounds when awake, call your local preschool speech and language program. The number is in the back of this booklet. |
| | If your baby does not look toward a sound or is not startled by a loud sound, call your doctor and ask for a referral to an audiologist for a hearing assessment. An audiologist is a specialist who can assess your childs hearing capabilities from as early as infancy. An audiologist will know how to help, should your child have a hearing problem. |
